MELIDE

Living in Melide is a real pleasure. We have all types of services nearby such as coop and denner supermarkets, a pharmacy, several hairdressers, the post office, our florist “Arcobaleno”, “Tiziano” one of the best pastry chefs in switzerland, the shop “le voyageur” where marina presents wonderful objects from around the world.

Without forgetting the lido, a place where all the inhabitants of melide meet to spend time with family or friends, to dip in the lake or swim in the pool, for an aperitif or for lunch. In winter time, the ice skating rink attracts people from surrounding towns rendering a jolly and festive atmosphere. The lakeside is also filled with a wide variety of restaurants and bars to please all culinary tastes.

Throughout the year, activities are organized by the town hall which always seeks to bring its population together. The town of melide also has a nursery and primary school. For high school and university teens tend to go to lugano which is a mere 10 minutes away by train or bus.

Melide is known worldwide for the famous swissminiatur, a museum showing famous buildings in switzerland presented in miniature form. It is also well known across the country as being the “golden coast” of switzerland, deeming itself as a great vacation spot for many people from other swiss cantons. The town also has direct access to the highway that leads directly towards the border with italy or to the other major cities of ticino.

Lugano

Only a couple of kilometres away from Melide, the city of Lugano is known for being the biggest city of canton Ticino. Unlike other towns in the area, Lugano portrays a very international and modern lifestyle and is inhabited by many people from around the world. Lugano is full of entertainment year round and even more so during summer with many bars, events and concerts taking place on the lakeside.

Como

Como is a city at the southern tip of Lake Como in northern Italy. It’s known for the Gothic Como Cathedral, a scenic funicular railway and a waterfront promenade. For centuries Como has been known as a little paradise where Italian families went to get away from the city. Due to this, the lakeside of Lake Como is filled with beautiful Villas that are either privately owned or that have been turned into hotels, such as the “Villa D’este” which is well known for its car show called “Concorso d’eleganza” and for hosting many celebrities such as George Clooney.

MILANO

Milan is a metropolis in Italy’s northern region, is the global capital of fashion and design and hosts many world renown events such as “Milan Fashion Week” and “Salone del Mobile”. Home to the national stock exchange, it’s a financial hub also known for its high-end restaurants and shops. The Gothic “Duomo of Milano”, the “Santa Maria delle Grazie” convent and the “Museo del Novecento” testify to centuries of art and culture. Milan is also known for innovation and its modern lifestyle, with many modern art museums such as the “Triennale” and Mudec along with trend setting bars and coffee places.(

ZURICH

Zürich is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zürich. It is a hub for railways, roads, and air traffic. Both Zurich Airport and railway station are the largest and busiest in the country. Many museums and art galleries can be found in the city, including the Swiss National Museum, the Kunsthaus. Zürich is among the world’s largest financial centres despite having a relatively small population. The city is home to many financial institutions and banking companies. Many of Switzerland’s research and development centres are concentrated in the Greater Zürich area and the low tax rates and canton funding subsidies attract overseas companies to set up their headquarters or finance treasury services in the city.

LUZERN

Luzern is a city in central Switzerland, in the German-speaking side of the country. Luzern is the most populous town in Central Switzerland, and a nexus of economics, transportation, culture, and media in the region. Due to its location on the shores of Lake Lucerne within sight of the mounts Pilatus and Rigi of the Swiss Alps, Lucerne has long been a destination for tourists. One of the city’s famous landmarks is the Chapel Bridge, right next to its colourful Old Town
